Have You Ever Wondered How Many People Living on Earth?

July 11, 2016 is the World Population Day. We celebrate humanity’s day in the world in over 100 countries and territories.

Yes, we celebrate being human, although in essence, the day is celebrated to inform the world how populous we are on this world.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the population is now at 7 billion and counting. The number increases every 8 seconds and will continue its pace until who knows when. If you check the site at the census.gov, you can see the moving figures.

11th of July is observed by the international community as WORLD POPULATION DAY. It was first celebrated in 1989 declared by the Governing Council of UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) with a yearly theme.

This year, UNDP came up with ‘Investing in teenage girls’ theme to support and ensure their education, health and protection. As you may have known or not noticed, the teenage girls are the future mothers. And another fact is, there are teenage girls who are already mothers. So, investing on them is somewhat fitting, considering that they bear the responsibility of bringing up future human breeders.

Some objectives of  this event is to raise awareness for global population issues such as the importance of family planning, encouraging the youth, educating the people about the effects and consequences of STD (sexually transmitted diseases), and many more. Each year since the first year it was celebrated in 1996, different themes have been created to match on the world issues.

Babies are born every 8 seconds. Yes we are increasing (pun intended :))
